CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR SUSTAINABILITY IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM
(Localising the SDGs through geospatial tehnologies)

Greetings from the Institute of Environment Education and Research, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, (BVIEER) Pune!!

BVIEER has been active in the field of environment education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) over the last twenty years and has been implementing capacity building programs as well as school programs across the state of Maharashtra. More recently it has been implementing an ESD Leadership Program as well as a Sustainability in Schools Program (focusing on capacity building of teachers across India).

BVIEER is also hosts the Project Management Unit for Geospatial Capacity Building of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for the last six years and coordinate the National Geospatial Capacity Building Program.

India is the proud host of the United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress to be held from 10-14 October 2022 at Hyderabad. In the run up to this event we are initiating a program ‘Sustainability in Schools: Localising the SDGs through the use of geospatial technologies’. The program involves building capacities among schools/teachers to implement change projects revolving around the SDGs through the use of geospatial technologies. Exemplary projects will be showcased at the Second UNWGIC and others will be hosted of a website specifically developed for this purpose.

For this we call upon volunteers who are willing to mentor a school to develop a change project. Volunteers must have a working knowledge of GIS. Training of volunteers and teachers is being planned in the months of June/July 2022.

For more information about this program join us for our Webinar ‘ Leading the Way: Sustainability in Schools: Action for ESD’ on June 3, 2022 from 10.00-13.30 hrs.
